NFL 2013 Head Coach Fires And Hires
This season has been great and now we are down to only 4 football games left; AFC conference final, NFC conference final, pro bowl, and the superbowl. However, 8 teams have already fired and hired head coaches. Each year I expect to see a few head coaches fired but 8?! Each team did the firing and hiring fairly quickly. I guess they have more important things to do like focus on who their going to draft for the 2013 NFL season.
San Diego Chargers fired Norv Turner who lead the Chargers to a 7-9 season. San Diego replaced him with Mike McCoy, who was the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator, 13-3 record in the regular season for the number one seed in the post season, and lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round post season game.
Philadelphia Eagles fired Andy Reid who lead the Eagles to a 4-12 regular season record. The Eagles went to the college level and hired Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly lead the Ducks to a 12-1 season record in 2012. He interviewed with Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and the Philadelphia Eagles and turn them all down but then signed with the Eagles after they came to him with their final offer.
Kansas City Chiefs fired Romeo Crennel who lead the Chiefs to a 2-14 season record and replaced him with Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid. After such a bad season for both the Chiefs and Andy Reid, I am sure they’re ready to win again.
Jacksonville Jaguars fired Mike Mularkey because of a 2-14 record which ties with Kansas City Chiefs for the worst record in the 2012 NFL regular season. The Jaguars decided to hire Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. Bradley Seahawks defense average 15.3 points allowed per game. I can see why the Jags picked him for the head coaching position.
Cleveland Browns fired Pat Shurmur and replaced him with Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. Chudzinski is no stranger to the Browns as he served as the offensive coordinator in 2007 to 2008. After the Cleveland Browns hired him, Rob Chudzinski hired former San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner as the Browns offensive coordinator
Chicago Bears fired Lovie Smith after nine years as head coach and a 10-6 record for the 2012 season. The Bears hired Marc Trestman, former head coach of the CFL Montreal Alouettes. Marc Trestman lead the team to back to back championships in 2009 and 2010. Before that San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders had him working as a offensive coordinator. Chicago Bears did the smart thing when searching for a new head coach. They hired a man with great job experience and accomplishments like two Canadian Football League championships.
Buffalo Bills fired Chan Gailey after a 2012 regular season record of 6-10. They hired a head coach with some NFL experience including, being an offensive line coach for the New York Jets and a offensive coordinator for New Orleans Saints. The Bills hired former Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone as their new head coach.
Arizona Cardinals fired Ken Whisenhunt after six seasons. The replaced him with Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians after a disappointing 2012 season with a 5-11 record.
